The UFCW understands that the food processing sector is going through a challenging period as witnessed by numerous recalls and the difficulty of reestablishing export markets in the wake of the "Mad Cow" scare in the U.S. With this in mind, the UFCW believes that a food producer that does not live up to its expectations may put the entire industry at risk, possibly hurting workers and consumers alike.

The UFCW believes that the majority of U.S. kosher meat producers maintain high quality food safety standards, and that Agriprocessors’ track record should not be taken as a reflection of the industry as a whole.
